Sex education of adolescents in Ghana
Ashamatey, Felicia Natacha
The study of sexuality education in Ghana's public schools is the main topic of the Diploma Thesis. A system of medical and educational techniques called comprehensive sexuality education helps people learn a wide range of aspects of human sexuality. The research materials were obtained during August and September 2022, when students had extended breaks. All 109 participants' responses were analysed using statistical software. The study's findings demonstrate a widespread viewpoint on the necessity of introducing more context-sensitive (81% of survey participants) received sexuality education. It places a strong emphasis on how parents and teachers shape teenagers. According to 31% of the students, the primary educational trend is toward abstinence as a means of preventing sexually transmitted illnesses. Additionally, it was shown that there is a relationship between gender and the way children are taught; women are taught about abstinence more than males, and 37% of women were unaware of any other forms of contraception save abstinence. While it is unimportant, there is no correlation between sexual awareness and religiosity. The study also reveals that the majority of respondents (98%) are assured in their decisions regarding sexuality and have strong opinions about their sexual behaviour.
Social determinants of knowledge of HPV infection and cancer risk
Stuchlíková, Tereza ; Kulhánová, Ivana (advisor) ; Hejtmánková, Alžběta (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with sexually transmitted human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and potential cancer risks that it causes. HPV is a factor of cervical cancer, one of the most common cancer cause of death in women, cervical cancer. Despite the fact that the majority of both female and male population become infected with HPV during their sexually active lives, especially before the age of 30, women are predominantly more susceptible to this infection. When young, the immune system can clear HPV within 2 years unnoticed but in the case of high-risk HPV, an innocent infection can be fatal. In recent years, the male population in particular has been increasingly affected by malignant neoplasms of the head and neck, such as oropharynx, which are caused by HPV. In recent years, HPV has ceased to be associated only with female genital cancer. However, this infection also causes penile and anal cancer in men so there is a need to better educate the population about the risks of HPV, especially the younger generation whose sexual behaviour is changing and therefore the virus in no longer only affecting genital tissue. The thesis deals with the description and epidemiology of these types of tumours and also with the social determinants that influence HPV infection. Knowledge of the risks of HPV is a...
Sex education and sexual behaviour of high school students
Hubáčková, Jana ; Ehler, Edvard (advisor) ; Vančata, Václav (referee)
The topic of this diploma thesis is sexual behaviour and sex education. The adolescent body goes through important biological changes that are reflected in the adolescent behaviour. The aim of this thesis is to describe and summarize the biological changes occurring in adolescence and show their connection to sexual, social, emotional and cognitive development in adolescence. The thesis also describes the psychological aspects of adolescence as well as the changes in cognition and the emotionality. Moreover, it also focuses on the development of human sexual behaviour. Finally, the theoretical part defines the theoretical basis of sex education and describes the current state of integration of sex education into the education system of the Czech Republic. Finally, this thesis also aims to analyse attitudes towards sex education of high-school students depending on the sex and type of attended high school, as well as to map experiences in sexual life of the first-year high- school students. Results are compared to the results of national survey on sexual behaviour. KEYWORDS: Sexual behaviour, sex education, high school, biological changes, psychological changes, puberty, adolescence
Noninvasive measurement of steroid homones and effect of hormonal manipulation on behaviour in the gecko Paroedura picta
Matušková, Lucie ; Kratochvíl, Lukáš (advisor) ; Fraňková, Marcela (referee)
Hormones influence life of all animals. Not only they affect physiological changes in organisms, but also impact their behaviour. This work focuses at two main groups of steroid hormones: glucocorticoids and androgens. Glucocortiods are activated in response to stress. Their levels can be measured using non-invasive methods, which have a range of advantages. The main advantage is the feedback-free sample collection for enzyme immunoassay. As the measurement involves metabolites of the hormones rather than the hormones themselves, prior validation of the method is, however, necessary. This work reports on a study aiming to validate non-invasive measurement on the Madagascar Ground Gecko (Paroedura Picta). The validation was based on ACTH challenge test: Synacthen Depot was injected, which should lead to increased blood level of glucocorticoids. The validation, however, was not successful. The measurement did not discover significant increase in the levels of the metabolites of glucocorticoids. In addition, the work focuses on behavioural effects of testosterone, the primary androgen. Hormonal manipulations have been carried out on several male and female specimens. The results have discovered differences in sexual behaviour between control groups. On the other hand, the hormonal manipulations had no...
Boar vocalizations and their potential role in sexual selection
Roreitnerová, Daniela ; Linhart, Pavel (advisor) ; Schneiderová, Irena (referee)
The aim of this research was to gather existing knowledge about vocalizations of boars and their potential role in sexual selection. Few studies mainly from the 70s and 80s of the last century suggest that the so-called love song, emitted by males during courtship, could act as a stimulant that triggers mating. However, I did not find any evidence that boars significantly use calls in fights. Most studies deal with pig vocalization in a different context. For this reason, I tried to look at the studies of pig relatives - even-toed ungulates - to better evaluate the potential role of boar vocalizations in sexual selection. In their case, the influence of the calls on the sexual behavior of females and competing males was reported. It is possible to conclude that the role of boar vocalization is probably not that important as in red deers, for example, because boars use calls in short range communication. On the other hand, stimulatory effect on females was found in other species too. Further studies are needed to understand possible function of boar vocalizations that could be used for example in pig breeding to improve the effectiveness of artificial insemination of sows. Homosexuality in primates
Falladová, Josefína ; Havlíček, Jan (advisor) ; Kuběnová, Barbora (referee)
Homosexual interactions were documented in more than 50 primate species, including humans. Homosexual behaviour is defined as either genital contact, genital manipulation or combination of both between same-sex individuals. The aim of this thesis is to systematically summarize the past knowledge of homosexual behavior in primates and critically analyze its possible functions. Homosexual behaviour varies in frequency, context and form in which this behaviour occurs, both between species, between males and females and during ontogenesis. I summarise not only studies looking recording homosexual behaviour in different primate species, but also regarding its form and the circumstances under which such behaviour occurs. Furthermore, in this thesis I introduce several sociosexual functions explaining homosexual behaviour, which are described most frequently: 1) dominance assertion, 2) tension regulation, 3) reconciliation, 4) alliance formation and social-bonding and 5) training for heterosexual mating. Sexual/hedonic aspects of this behaviour also form significant part of homosexual interactions. Possible functions of homosexual behaviour do not clearly point to a single explanation, homosexual behaviour could be multifunctional similarly to humans. Sexually transmitted Infections in Prague: Socio-epidemiological analysis
Sekera, Jan Carlos ; Dzúrová, Dagmar (advisor) ; Jágrová, Zdeňka (referee)
This thesis is focused on a situation of sexually transmitted infections in Prague (and in The Czech Republic shallowly) and analyzes this issue relatively to the social epidemiology. The thesis tries to identify the most vulnerable groups of a population. These groups contain homosexual men, individuals having unprotected sex and promiscuous people. Further more, the thesis tries to identify a relation between a high-risk factor and an exposition of a particular infection. For example, it was found out that sexual related risks are mostly determinated by a sexual behavior and a region where the individuals come from. Also, men are more vulnerable group of people than women according to findings of this thesis. A gonorrhoea infection is the most reported sexually transmitted infection in Prague (59,1 % of all cases). Syphilis is the second most common infection of this kind. The highest prevalence of sexually transmitted infections was reported for people with (finished or unfinished) basic education. This group of people represents 14,3 % of all reported cases. Its prevalence is 67,7 patients per ten thousand individuals. A group of people aged 20 - 29 years is another group with high prevalence. Further identification of a sexual behavior in The Czech Republic was one of the main goals of this...
